Bwana - Bwana 1970

Personal Note: I can't say much in regards to meaninful inforrmation for this band as my import CD was extremely sparse in the liner note department. I have managed to find out that the band was a group of Colombian musicians that played Latin Funk/Jazz with psych/prog styled guitar...Very similar to what Malo & Santana was doing on early albums such as Borbolleta, III and Abraxas. (Hence the album art used here from the same artist that designed the "Annunciation" painting that was used for Santana's "Abraxas" album art.) It is also noted that the original album cover was bashed by critics as being distasteful so this one was used for the 2001 Japanese Import and there was another Domestic reissue released back around '03 or '04. Both are currently out of print. These guys are instrumentally tight with a heavy emphasis on latin/cuban styled percussion fused with grinding organ with a few breaks thrown out here and there. If you have an interest in early Santana-styled latin rhythm & percussion then check this out...Track one is a smoker.

Osibisa - Osibirock 1974

Personal Note: Progressive Afro rhythms with plenty of percusion throughout from 74's "Osibirock" album. This drop is my second favorite from the band below the Woyoya album. The ending of the track "African Jive" contains a very interesting guitar solo.

B.B. King - Live In Cook County Jail - 1971

Personal Note: B.B.King-Recorded Live in Cook County Jail in Chicago, Illinois September 10, 1970 Released in 1971 MCA Records. Alongside "Live At The Regal", This is the best live recording of B.B that I have ever heard. The album captures a young Riley King at a time when his vocal prowess was at it's strongest. Also a great reaction from the crowd (inmates). Essential Recording

Various Artist - Shaft Anthology

Personal Note - A very welcome addition to the Blaxploitation arena. Contains 92 tracks total with alternate takes of various tunes and unreleased music heard in the film but not included on the original MGM Isaac Hayes - Shaft movie score. Incidental music, Reel spins & Cues are added bonuses to the set. Gordon Park's "Shaft's Big Score" & most of the offerings from Johnny Pate's "Shaft TV Show" are included on the 2nd & 3rd discs with 28 page full color liner notes of film facts, production credits & color pictures. Even if you already own the original "Shaft" albums as I do, You will still feel blessed to have added this to your collection. Well worth it's purchase.
